Proper Preparation for Your Tattoo Session
Before your appointment
avoid getting sunburned, inflammation can affect tattoo ink deposits
EAT!!! -Getting a tattoo on an empty stomach can lead to lightheadedness or dizziness. It is best to eat a well-balanced meal before your appointment. This serves to maintain stable blood sugar levels and keep your energy up throughout the session.
MOISTURIZE DAYS BEFORE YOU APPOINTMENT- this will make your skin hydrated and prepare it for your tattoo session. Hydrated skin takes ink a lot better than dehydrated skin which will make the entire process a lot smoother for your artist.
Wear comfortable clothes
avoid alcohol/ caffeine- It is advisable to avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 to 48 hours before your tattoo session. First and foremost, all of them will thin your blood, making the tattoo process more painful. You will bleed more as a result, and the tattoo will not heal correctly. Also, arriving hungover or caffeinated may make you uncomfortable and unpleasant during your tattoo session, which you do not want.
SHOWER- You want to keep your skin as clean as possible since tattooing creates small cuts and opens the skin up. Do not show up after a hard gym session or after a game of basketball.
Aftercare with Sanitary non-adhesive absorbent pads.
do not ask friends and families how to take care of your tattoo, there are different ways of taking care of it, but I strictly suggest following the next guidelines below so we can easily track if any complications occur.
unwrap the tattooed area after 2-3 hours after your appointment
gently wash it with unscented soap and pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
apply unscented lotion the following day and for the rest of your life. you should always be moisturizing and nourishing your skin. Even after the tattoo is healed, make sure that your skin is healthy by consistently using body lotion that is intended to enrich your skin with the best that nature has to offer, this will help preserve the quality and vibrancy of your tattoo.
SHOWER EVERY DAY with unscented soap to keep your tattoo clean
DO NOT APPLY RUBBING ALCOHOL/ SANITIZER ON THE TATTOO TO CLEAN IT. This will irritate the skin and can slow the healing. It could also make your skin dry and your tattoo look less vibrant.
Keep it away from dirty surfaces.
keep it away from pets.
make sure that your sheets are clean.
DO NOT PICK IT.
DO NOT SCRATCH IT.
AVOID POOL, BATH, SAUNA, AND HOT TUB.
Aftercare with Saniderm bandage (Second Skin)
do not ask friends and families how to take care of your tattoo, there are different ways of taking care of it, but I strictly suggest following the next guidelines below so we can easily track if any complications occur.
Keep the Bandage on for 4 Days. During this time, it is normal to see some fluid build up beneath the bandage. (If the bandage begins to leak, you must remove the bandage and follow the standard aftercare instructions listed below).
After 4 days, remove the Saniderm bandage gently under warm running water. To take the bandage off you must stretch from each side rather than peel it off like a Bandaid. When you stretch the bandage it allows the adhesive to come off the skin without disrupting the tattoo and taking any ink with it.
DO NOT TAKE THE SANIDERM OFF WITHOUT WARM RUNNING WATER. without water to wash off the adhesive, the adhesive will stay on the skin which could cause bacteria and other elements to stick to it, this could lead to infection or irritation.
